Natural Smokes
Octavius Hunt is a manufacturer of smoke fumigation products, used for Pest Control, Stored Produce & Glass House applications. These products have traditionally involved the use of synthetic pesticide active.

More recently we have started to work on natural oils and organic extracts, and found that these can be dispersed using the same technology.

Substances that have been successfully incorporated are: Mint Oil, Garlic Oil, Eucalyptus, Citronella, Castor Oil.

Uses of Natural Smokes
Smoke products are the ideal application for awkward spaces where spraying equipment is difficult to use for example, in lofts, all structures, inside machinery and under furniture. They can be used for pest control in homes and animal containers as well as for agriculture. Below are two products that Octavius Hunt has developed for very different markets and applications.

Eucalyptus

One example of a successful project using natural smokes is the Prosmoke pellet sold in the UK and Holland by Pronafit. This pellet uses a unique blend of herbs and essential oils for the control of mites, gnats and lice in Pigeon Coops being a herbal product the smoke can be safely used even with the pigeons inside as there are no adverse affects, in fact users have commented that their general health is improved. The smoke contains amongst other ingredients eucalyptus, the pigeons are exposed to the eucalyptus vapour which cleans their nostrils and tubes. Eucalyptus is a well-known essential oil which is used to avoid health problems such as sinusitis, colds and mucus build up in the lungs.

Garlic

Working with a garlic supplier in the UK, Octavius Hunt has developed a smoke generator for professional and amateur use in the greenhouse. Garlic has been used since the 16th Century to ward off ailments and pests, but is also proven to be beneficial plants, ornamentals, vegetables and fruit.

Garlic actually promotes the health of the plant reducing the potential feeding damage from insects. In the Green house the generator can be used when the plants are actively growing or early in the growing season making them less susceptible to attack. After treatment the plants are less prone to attack from slugs and snails and in cases cabbage and carrot root-fly.

This product is perfect for ornamentals and vegetables as the plants do not retain any odour, flavours or from the smoke. Edible crops may also be harvested and eaten on the same day of treatment. Garlic smokes are not harmful to beneficial insects such as ladybirds, bees and earthworms.
